Please indicate which of the following SMART activities you would like to volunteer for.  More detail about each is available in the SMART manual at http://sdmines.sdsmt.edu/smart.

Co-hosting college fairs and/or Mines Information Nights with SDSM&T representatives – attend 1 or more college fairs with an SDSM&T representative where your sole responsibility would be to share your experience at and after SDSM&T with prospective students.

Hosting college fairs and/or Mines Information Nights on own for SDSM&T – attend 1 or more college fairs by yourself where you would be responsible for all aspects of recruitment:  collecting student contact information, sharing facts and figures about SDSM&T, discussing application and scholarship topics, etc.

Classrooms discussions and/or high school visits at local schools – make presentations at local schools about careers in engineering/science or about interesting science and technology topics – perhaps something going on at your place of business.  Visit with prospective students at their high schools to see if they need anything or have any questions - pass this information on to the admissions office.

Contact prospective students via phone – contact students (typically high school seniors) who we are recruiting from your area.  Discuss the university and your experience there with them.  Learn the interests of students through questions and conversation.

Contact prospective students via email – send prospective students personalized email.  Share your SDSM&T experiences.  Ask questions, perhaps the student will return the email.

Contact prospective students via letter – send prospective students personalized letter.  Share your SDSM&T experiences.

Identify prospective students – this is probably the simplest, yet one of the most important activities a SMART member can participate in.  Identify prospective students from your area high schools (or younger) and send the university admissions department the student(s) contact information.

Host an event at your home or place of business – please check this box if you would be interested in hosting an SDSM&T event for prospective students in your home or place of business sometime.

Presenting scholarships – present SDSM&T scholarships to incoming students at high school graduations and other events.  It is a great opportunity to both recognize the student’s achievement as well as have a representative of the university (yourself) publicly presenting at a public event.

Work shadow – allow a prospective or current student the opportunity to join you in your workplace for a given period of time to learn about the work environment for your type of employment.
