  1. Lack of parking regulation knowledge is not a valid reason for an appeal. Students, faculty and staff are responsible for becoming familiar with University parking policy and regulations. Visitors are responsible for following regulations on posted signs.
  2. Failure to find a parking space is not an excuse to violate parking regulations. Possession of a parking permit is not a guarantee of an available parking space, but authorization to park if a legal space is available.
  3. Owners of vehicles registered with the SD School of Mines and Technology will be responsible for all tickets on their vehicles, including parking violations committed by other persons operating the vehicle with the owner's permission. However, the person who parked in error may acknowledge and accept financial responsibility for the violation.
    Reasons for Appeal:

How to Appeal a Ticket

Appeals shall be made using the on-line appeal process on the Facilities Services website http://www.sdsmt.edu/appeal/. Such appeals must be submitted within five working days after the issuance of each violation notices, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays excluded. Any appeal entered after 5 business days of their issuance will not be reviewed. Late fees may be assessed if fines are not paid within two weeks of a failed appeal or two weeks of an issued ticket. The appellant has the option to appear before the Committee and may submit such evidence directly to the committee. The appellant must notify facilities by response to appeal form that they would like to appear at the committee in order to be scheduled. The appellant must be able to attend during the normally scheduled meeting times. Individual meeting times will not be granted, but the appellant always has the option of talking directly with the Facilities Services Service Response Supervisor to discuss the ticket prior to an appeal meeting. The parking committee will review all requests and will vote to approve or deny the request. A majority vote of the committee is required to overturn a ticket. All decisions made by the committee are final.
